Description
The Church Choir of Mariä Himmelfahrt traces back a nearly 400-year tradition. The first singing associations in Tiengen are already documented in the early 17th century. The main focus of the choir is the musical design of the liturgy on Sundays and holidays. In addition, it regularly organizes concerts featuring works from the classical oratorio repertoire. These include well-known works like Handel's "Messiah" as well as rarer pieces such as Mendelssohn's "Lauda Sion" or Cherubini's "Regina coeli."
On the eve of the Feast of Christ the King and Cäcilia Day, the anniversary year will culminate in a festive concert and a subsequent celebration.
The program of this concert includes works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, including the unfinished oratorio "Christus." This piece establishes the connection to the Feast of Christ the King. The highlight of the concert is the "Deutsche Te Deum" by Carl Martin Reinthaler, a close friend of Johannes Brahms. The work stylistically aligns with Mendelssohn's tradition. It was premiered in 1863 at Bremen Cathedral. The anniversary year under the motto Te Deum 400 Years of Choral Singing in Tiengen will be festively rounded off with the performance of this "Te Deum."
