Description

The album Content by Berlin vibraphonist and composer Oli Bott has a very special history of creation. In summer 2021, Bott invited Markus Stockhausen (trumpet), Oliver Potratz (bass), and Eric Schaefer (drums) to a first joint rehearsal. The session was recorded — more as a precaution than with a concrete plan. Each piece was created in a single take. When the musicians listened to the recordings later, they were amazed: instead of a working recording of their first joint rehearsal, they were already holding the finished album in their hands. With John-Dennis Renken on trumpet, the quartet now presents this extraordinary project live. The starting point remains musical miniatures that develop into expansive improvised narratives through interplay. Oli Bott, whose vibraphone playing was described by the music magazine Concerto as "radiantly beautiful and soulful," gives clear impulses to the pieces without dictating them in detail. Thus, each concert results in a new musical story from the same compositions.
