A nun with a beard performing miracles? The archived videos from prehistoric times seem clear. Sister Mary Wendy and her order of Bra Bra trust that a lasting solution to global crises and conflicts is not far off and are already recruiting new members for this purpose. Who wouldn't want to be part of that? The miracle uses contemporary, physical, and wildly captivating clownish storytelling that confuses genre and gender boundaries. It charmingly invites the audience to also expand their own free spaces. Absurd, surprising, playful, and joyful, the piece searches for mythic, queer-feminist ancestors from not-so-gray ancient times, whose knowledge of the wondrous power of ambiguity and humor is to be rediscovered! Olivia Platzer, as Sister Mary Wendy, connects to a rich canon full of wild women* — from Baubo, who shows her vulva to the depressed goddess Demeter to cheer her up and thus ends a global famine, to the folk saint Wilgefortis, who became the patroness of women in distress as a crucified virgin with a beard. The miracle tells of a community where non-conformity, not conformity, is sacred. Credits:
