Edith Tudor-Hart: A Woman's Many Faces

Description

Originally trained as a Montessori educator, she photographed children and their education in progressive educational institutions in exile in Britain during the late 1940s. Some of these beautiful and sensitive works were published in the textbook "Moving and Growing" (1952). She also played an important role in establishing contacts between the Soviet secret service and key decision-makers in English society, later known as the "Cambridge Five" spy ring. As a result, she was monitored by the British secret service for years. The pressure from this led her to destroy some of her negatives and photographs, ultimately withdrawing completely from photography.
