Edith Tudor-Hart - a woman's many faces

Description

The photographer Edith Tudor-Hart, born in Vienna in 1908, known for her social documentary photography, addressed social issues, poverty, integration, women's rights, and documented the living conditions of the working class in Vienna and London in the 1930s. Originally trained as a Montessori educator, she photographed children and their education in progressive institutions while in exile in Great Britain in the late 1940s. Some of these beautiful and sensitive works were published in the textbook "Moving and Growing" (1952). She also played an important role in establishing contacts between the Soviet secret service and key decision-makers in English society, later known as the "Cambridge Five" spy ring. As a result, she was monitored by the British secret service for years. The pressure led her to destroy some of her negatives and photographs, eventually withdrawing completely from photography.
