From childhood in Lüneburg, through war and captivity, studying law in Freiburg, legal clerkship and the Ministry of Education in Hanover, trips to Italy and France, the formative year at Harvard, to the chair substitute for Adorno in Frankfurt and the founding professorship in Bielefeld, he follows a clear chronology. Clemens Luhmann, born in 1965, is a doctor, painter, and author. As the son of sociologist Niklas Luhmann, he has a unique personal access to his father's life and work.
