Shortly after it was confirmed that Donald Trump had been re-elected as US President, Isabella Weber asked on X: "Can we finally have a serious discussion about an antifascist economic policy?" The Democrats had underestimated the impact of the dramatically rising cost of living and thus left the field to Trump with his resentment politics. Her tweet went viral and sparked a worldwide debate. What could the fundamentals of such a policy look like – affordable everyday goods, democratic control of corporate power, cooperation instead of nationalism – Isabella M. Weber discusses with Ines Schwerdtner, the federal chairwoman of The Left, SPD Secretary General Tim Klüssendorf, and Bündnis 90/Die Grünen deputy faction leader Andreas Audretsch. The moderation is provided by rbb editor Natascha Freundel. If we want to prevent the further rise of the extreme right, Weber states in her new book "Antifascist Economic Policy" (Suhrkamp, 2026), we need an economic policy that puts the needs and dignity of people at the center.
