In her autofictional novel "Lügen über meine Mutter," Daniela Dröscher tells how her mother's body was defined by others' gazes: too fat, not presentable. Now, the film adaptation is coming to cinemas with Rosalie Thomass in the lead role. Lena Schättes' text "Was wir tragen" recently won the prestigious Bachmann-Preis in two categories — here too, it's about the volume of female bodies and the value associated with it. On this occasion, the "Schönheitssalon" in October will explore how books, films, and social media tell us stories about female fat. Between food porn and candy aesthetics, Skinnytok, and fatphobia: who has the power to define an acceptable body size? What value can indulgent eating have in a woman's life? Why is the eating woman condemned and simultaneously fetishized? Daniela Dröscher is a writer living in Berlin. Her debut novel "Die Lichter des George Psalmanazar" was published in 2009, followed by the short story collection "Gloria" (2010), the novel "Pola" (2012), and the memoir "Zeige deine Klasse" (2018). In April 2026, "Sprechen" was published by Hanser Berlin. Daniela Dröscher has received awards including the Anna Seghers-Preis, the working scholarship of the German Literature Fund, and the Robert-Gernhardt-Preis. Her novel "Lügen über meine Mutter" (2022) was shortlisted for the German Book Prize and will be released in cinemas in October 2026. Lena Schätte (*1993) debuted in 2014 with the novel "Ruhrpottliebe." In subsequent years, she worked as a psychiatric nurse in the Ruhr area until she began studying Literary Writing at the German Literature Institute Leipzig in 2020. For an excerpt from her novel "Das Schwarz an den Händen meines Vaters," Lena Schätte was awarded the W.-G.-Sebald-Literaturpreis 2024, and the novel was longlisted for the German Book Prize in 2025. In 2026, Lena Schätte received the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize. Rabea Weihser started her career as a music sociology student and then as an editor at ZEIT ONLINE, where she led the culture section. In 2021, she moved for two years to the basketball champion ALBA BERLIN as the first Director of Communication & Culture of the Bundesliga. In 2025, her non-fiction book "Wie wir so schön wurden. Eine Biografie des Gesichts" was published by Diogenes. She now works as a freelance journalist and hosts the monthly "Schönheitssalon" at Urania.
