I Deserve This! How Fair Is the Merit Principle?

Description

Philosophy for Everyone! The Philosophy Festival at Urania Berlin. Debate: Those who contribute more should also receive more – this is one of the most powerful notions of justice in our society. But what exactly is merit? How much of our success do we truly deserve, and what role do origin, luck, and social conditions play? And does greater effort really justify greater reward? In the debate, philosopher Stefan Gosepath discusses with political scientist Michael Zürn about merit, equal opportunities, and how just the merit principle really is. Participants: Stefan Gosepath (FU Berlin) & Michael Zürn (FU Berlin & WZB)
