Description

by Kristen Stewart (US, FR, LV) A raw and visceral film, The Chronology of Water traces the life of Lidia, born in the Pacific Northwest in an environment ravaged by violence and alcohol. A promising swimmer, the young woman manages to escape her family by entering university, where she participates in a writing project. However, illicit substances continue to flow, while the young woman discovers her bisexuality and experiences sadomasochism.
By adapting the cult memoirs of Lidia Yuknavitch, Kristen Stewart delivers a formally free and powerful directorial debut, enveloped in the unconscious of a young woman haunted by traumatic memory. An ode to writing and creation, “an invitation to face the ugliness, to accept shame, and to emerge from it knowing that your body and your story belong to you” (KS).
