On the last Sunday in September, numerous historic monuments across Austria open their doors again – with free admission. The Federal Monuments Office invites you to the Day of Monuments under the motto "Monuments: Value for All." The program of the Jewish Museum Hohenems: The Habsburg Inn – Escape stories, memory, and the future of a monument. What stories are hidden behind the walls of the historic "Habsburg Inn"? Starting from a guestbook entry from the Nazi era, we follow the traces of escape, memory, and civil courage. Afterwards, the focus shifts to the present: How can a historically significant building be preserved, and what challenges does this bring? A tour between history and the present, accompanied by the personal memories of a contemporary witness and a conversation with Florian Wöß from the Federal Monuments Office about the future of an important cultural monument. An opportunity to see the Habsburg Inn from new perspectives. Public tours at 09:30 and 14:00. The tour begins at the Jewish Museum Hohenems. There, the historic guestbook of the Habsburg Inn will be presented, which contains an entry by art historian and poet Gertrud Kantorowicz. This is followed by the escape story of five women, providing insights into the Nazi era. In the subsequent discussion at the Habsburg Inn, questions of monument protection and remembrance culture will be discussed. Meeting point: Jewish Museum Hohenems, Schweizer Straße 5
