Pointed Pen Calligraphy Basics

Description

Anglaise is often used for elegant certificates, stylish invitations, or creative letterings. In this pointed pen calligraphy, varying writing pressure creates different stroke thicknesses. Fine upward strokes (hairlines) are made without pressure, while downward strokes (swells) are drawn with light pressure on the flexible nib. This opens the nib slit and gives the writing rhythmically distinctive, expressive contrasts. We practice swells with the relatively simple Anglaise lowercase letters and refine this technique with some uppercase letters. Since different letter sizes are written with the same nib, appealing design exercises are created. At the end of the workshop, we insert the practice sheets into a leporello and hold a small exhibition.

General Information

The workshop teaches basic techniques of pointed pen calligraphy. Participants learn to create different stroke thicknesses through pressure variations and practice the Anglaise script. At the end of the workshop, a small exhibition of the created works is organized.
