Description
Wars and conflicts leave not only suffering and destruction but also 'free' spaces for black markets. The starting point of 'Prishtina' is the story of a crime that occurred 25 years ago in the recently liberated Prishtina, then managed by the United Nations mission in Kosovo. When the war ended in June 1999, housing for the majority of people was one of the most urgent problems. And the United Nations administration had no quick solution. The 'solution' was provided by the underworld and construction companies: overnight, buildings of poor quality and without regard for building regulations sprang up. Rexhep Luci, architect and head of urban planning in Prishtina, desperately tried to control the city's development. Like Dr. Stockmann in Ibsen's 'An Enemy of the People', he tried to think for the future, demanding safety and planning. However, he paid a disproportionately higher price than Stockmann. Rexhep Luci was murdered on September 11, 2000, by an unknown assailant in the entrance of his apartment in Prishtina. The consequences are still felt today, and urban planning determines quality of life. Language: Albanian with subtitlesAge recommendation: from 16 years
