Milou Steiner – Where Life Takes Place

This photo exhibition is dedicated to the largely unknown photographer Milou Steiner (1915–1994) from the Ringier photo archive. His images document cultural and social life – with an eye for the unremarkable at the edge of events. Whether Louis Armstrong, the New York City Ballet, or the Beatles – as a silent observer, Milou Steiner captured the magic of the stage and the stars of his time photographically. He boldly accompanied alpine expeditions with camera, crampons, and skis, documented tourism, and even ventured into the Eiger North Face. He also captured the technological progress of the post-war era in his images. Milou Steiner was more than a photographer; he was a chronicler who brought the world alive through his lens. Complementing the photo exhibition, we displayed a selection of his photo reports in the foyer (until March 1, 2026). As a traveler on behalf of the image, Steiner was always active – yet remained discreet in the background.
