Description
After the celebrated guest performance "Pah-Lak," we are presenting another play in the Tibetan language. It deals with the significance of Buddhism in Tibetan culture and the fierce resistance of the Tibetan people following the invasion by the Chinese army in the early 1950s.
Phayul means homeland – a word deeply connected to the Tibetan refugee community with longing and painful reality. To this day, thousands of Tibetans are unable to revisit their places of origin or explore their cultural and familial roots.
The latest production of the Tibet Theatre is based on intensive research by the author Abhishek Majumdar, conducted in Tibet and in collaboration with the Tibetan community in exile. The play highlights the role of Buddhism in the lives of many Tibetans and addresses both the prehistory and the development of the Tibetan resistance movement. It raises the highly topical question: Does defending one's homeland justify the use of violence?
