Description

In Japan, centuries-old traditions and cutting-edge technology are closely intertwined. Oliver Bolch takes us on a fascinating journey. In the vibrant metropolis of Tokyo, futuristic skylines and lively street culture meet quiet temples and shrines. During cherry blossom season, Japan reveals its poetic side, while Mount Fuji majestically overlooks the landscape and Japanese macaques bathe in hot springs. In Kyoto, the cultural heart of the country, we experience magnificent temples, traditional festivals like the Aoi Matsuri, and mysterious rituals. In Nara and Miyajima, the oldest sanctuaries of Japan are located, and we gain insight into sumo wrestling, deeply rooted in Japanese tradition and Shintoism. Japan is also nature: in the south, ancient cedar forests on Yakushima; in the north, winter Hokkaido with snow-covered volcanic landscapes, drift ice, and a unique wildlife—including giant sea eagles, Manchurian cranes, and singing swans.
