Description
Our lives today leave traces that didn’t exist before: thousands of photos in the cloud, email accounts with decades of correspondence, social media profiles, online banking, streaming subscriptions, digital purchases, passwords for hundreds of services. What happens to these when we are no longer here or can no longer act ourselves? Who has access – and who should have access? This course is a structured engagement with a topic that most of us tend to postpone for a long time. We gain an overview of what belongs to the digital estate, the legal framework conditions in Switzerland, and – above all – what concrete steps are possible today to relieve relatives and implement one’s own wishes. What we discuss this evening
First, we get an overview: What digital assets and data do I actually own? Accounts, devices, cloud storage, cryptocurrencies, domains, digitally purchased books and music, business accesses – the list is usually longer than expected. Then we clarify the legal situation in Switzerland: What happens without provision? What role do wills, advance directives, and digital powers of attorney play? How do major providers like Google, Apple, Meta, or Microsoft react in the event of death? What are the specifics with Swiss providers like Swisscom, Post, or banks? In the practical part, we look at the most important tools: password managers, Apple’s legacy contact, Google’s inactivity manager, emergency folders. You will take home a concrete checklist and a template for your personal overview. Finally, we reserve time for the human side of the topic: What should remain of me? What should be deleted? How do I talk to my relatives about it? Topics at a glance
What belongs to the digital estate – an inventory. Swiss inheritance law and digital estate: what is regulated and what is not. Proper digital supplementation of advance directives and powers of attorney. Password managers as the heart of provision. Legacy functions at Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft. Specifics of Swiss services (Swisscom, Post, banks, AHV). Photos, memories, and data for the next generation. Memorial profiles, deletion requests, and digital remembrance. The conversation with relatives. Who is this course for

No prior knowledge is required – the course is aimed at private individuals, not professionals. What to bring
