Description
A football national team of authors? It exists! The Swiss Literature National Team has been playing international matches since 2006 against writers from Germany, Austria, or Scotland, competing with teams from cantonal parliaments as well as the National Council, newspaper editorial offices, and orchestras. The Literature National Team celebrates its twentieth anniversary with a collection of short stories, poetry, and spoken-word texts about football. Current and former team members share stories about the fields where they played as children, animals in the stadium, and the loneliest hooligan. "Throw-ins and Headers" is a reading book with surprising, unheard, and touching original contributions that turn the world's most important sideline into a literary main event and look far beyond the playing field. Rolf Lappert is a writer who won the first Swiss Book Prize with "Swimming Home." Ueli Mäder is a sociologist who recently published the biography "My Brother Marco." Marianne Meier is a historian, sports educator, and co-author of the book "The Right to Kick. The History of Swiss Women's Football." Jonas Schmid wrote the first and only graffiti novel in Switzerland, "The Sorrows of the Young Tellians." All four play or have played in the Literature National Team.
