Nine Afghan actresses in exile reinvent Antigone: a powerful chorus where theater and resistance unite to make heard a word of freedom.
In August 2021, after the Taliban took power, the Afghan Girls Theater Group, nine actresses and their director, fled Kabul and found refuge in Lyon. Hosted by the Théâtre Nouvelle Génération and the Théâtre National Populaire of Villeurbanne, the collective continues its work in exile. Inspired by Sophocles' Antigone, the actresses form a sensitive and powerful chorus that, like the ancient heroine, opposes arbitrary power. With embodied presence and poetry, their voices carry a collective speech nourished by unique trajectories. Performed in Dari and surtitled in French, this luminous show gives voice to those who, even today, defend freedom and justice.
