Im Umbau!

Description

In the mid-1990s, the concrete slabs of the KUB sank under the weight of the books. At that time, discussions began about renovating and expanding the building. The winner of the architecture competition was chosen in 2010, and the project was approved by a referendum in 2018. A year later, the KUB commissioned Francesco Ragusa and Yves Eigenmann to document this gigantic construction site photographically. Step by step, the two Freiburgers focus their humanistic gaze on the daily work of the workers amidst the impressive hole dug into the former storage rooms, or on the forest of support beams holding up the fragile walls. General Information

The exhibition "Im Umbau!" at the Cantonal and University Library of Fribourg shows the photographic documentation of the renovation and expansion of the building. The work was captured by Francesco Ragusa and Yves Eigenmann and offers a unique view of the construction site and the people working there.
