Description
Sensual, expressive dance meets masterful artworks: Ballet director Cathy Marston is keen to engage in a creative exchange with renowned institutions in the city and canton of Zurich. Thus, the new evening of the Junior Ballet is created in close dialogue with the Kunsthaus Zurich and the Kunstmuseum Winterthur.
The two museums, with their inexhaustible variety of art treasures from various epochs, become a meeting place for the two choreographers Houston Thomas and Aleix Martínez as well as the 14 dancers of the Junior Ballet. Joint visits to the respective exhibition rooms and dialogues with art experts from both houses serve as inspiration for two new choreographies.
Both choreographers made their careers as soloists and now inspire with their own works. The American Houston Thomas was born and raised in Chicago. In 2013, he found his artistic home at the Dresden Semperoper Ballet, where he was a soloist until 2023. In 2018, he also began choreographing there.
Aleix Martínez, originally from Barcelona, was the first soloist at the Hamburg Ballet. He studied at the local ballet school and in Marseille. He has been working as a choreographer since 2011 and was awarded, among others, as a young artist by the magazine "Tanz".
