Icon Painting for Christmas

Description

Following a given icon, all course participants paint their own icon on a wooden panel using self-mixed pigment colors made from gemstones such as lapis lazuli, jade, or jasper. They gain experience in all steps of icon painting, from priming the wood to gilding with gold leaf. The practical work is complemented by introductory lectures on the history and symbolism of early Christian painting art. Through these practical experiences with the implementation of theological thinking into craft painting processes, and through handling self-made colors and gold leaf, one gains a new perspective on the early Christian cultural heritage and the oldest traditional method of contemplative painting. No prerequisites are required. Anyone can paint an icon – at least following a template and under guidance!

General Information
