Arthropods are among the most successful animal groups in Earth’s history. In this evening tour for Geodiversity Day, we’ll explore their evolution and discover fossil “crawlers” dating back several hundred million years. Selected specimens from the museum’s collection demonstrate just how diverse these animals were back then: from early marine dwellers to terrestrial forms that even took to the air. But how were the sometimes delicate bodies of these animals able to be preserved as fossils at all? And what do their fossils reveal about long-gone habitats?
