FIFF: Fribourg International Film Festival

Description

The FIFF programs a cinema of invention and poetry as an expression of a conquered freedom - sometimes at a high cost. Moving away from the references and writings of Western cinema, these films ask viewers to be open to being disturbed by images, stories, and ideas that may be unusual for the Swiss audience. This way, the festival contributes to the dissemination of an "other perspective" and thus to a better understanding of the different cultural and social realities of the world. In this field, FIFF is the reference event in Switzerland and enjoys a good reputation internationally.
From March 20 to 29, the 40th edition of FIFF presents a mosaic of portraits of mothers in its Genre Cinema section: Thank You Mom! Also enjoy the international competitions as well as the Family Decoding and Discoveries sections.
For the first time, FIFF dedicates its New Territory section to a South American country: Colombia. Its cinematography experienced a turning point twenty years ago and has since enjoyed an extraordinary artistic renaissance. Ten feature films and six short films have been selected with the help of Swiss-Colombian director Jorge Cadena. A rebellious and festive section to discover at FIFF from March 20 to 29, 2026, with the presence of filmmakers from this country. Full program available from March 4, 2026.
As every year, films are screened at the Rex Cinema and Arena Cinema theaters. Other events take place in various locations, such as the Old Station for all festive evenings and Fribourg Centre for more information and advice.
