Fantastique

Description

With the ecstatic sounds and expressive tone language in his Symphony Fantastique, Hector Berlioz directed music history in 1830 onto new paths. Through exuberant orchestration, Berlioz was able to anticipate the music of Richard Strauss or Erich Korngold and still amazes audiences today.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart also caused great astonishment when he performed his Don Giovanni in Prague in 1787. Audience and press agreed: such a complex, dramatically comic opera had never been performed in the city before. Allegedly, Mozart composed the opera under immense time pressure, so the overture had to be played from the still damp sheet music without prior rehearsals.
