From the oldest view of the city, taken in 1545, to the modern aerial view, St. Gallen has always been depicted in different ways. The HVM presents these images from six centuries for the first time in an overall exhibition. From graphics and paintings, postcards and photographs to augmented reality, the structural changes of the city become visible. Economic, political and social developments have left their mark. Scars and fractures are just as recognizable as landmarks that convey continuity. In juxtaposition, the city views present themselves as exciting witnesses of change, but also point to the changed perception in the course of history.
