Vernissage May 22, 2026, 6:30 PM This cabinet exhibition is dedicated to the work of the St. Gallen artist Arthur Beyer (1904–1982), who was active as a painter and graphic artist throughout his life. In the 1960s and 1970s, he developed an independent visual language in which he subjected everyday motifs such as train stations and bridges, streetscapes, and house fronts to formal simplification. His flat paintings of constructed landscapes appear anonymized and typified, yet at the same time unfold a remarkable analytical power. In his painting, Beyer anticipates postmodern cityscapes in which the built environment itself becomes the main character and at the same time a symbol for the environment.
