Description

A fusion between centuries-old glass painting techniques and artificial intelligence. Aline Dold and Mia Walder connect traditional glass craftsmanship with digital art under the title "Glass & AI." Mouth-blown antique glass meets AI-generated image motifs that are fragmented, recomposed, and crafted. Their works are understood as image spaces where past and future, human and machine, as well as light and technology merge. Aline Dold, a trained Swiss glass painter and artist, has been dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of glass painting for over 20 years. She learned various techniques for working with glass both domestically and abroad, and during her apprenticeship and travels, she reconstructed a church window by Johannes Klein at Cologne Cathedral and also realized modern designs by well-known artists like Friedrich Dürrenmatt in glass. It is her great concern to preserve, pass on, and make visible the traditional technique, as this beautiful craft is slowly threatened with extinction. Since 2025, she has been connecting digital designs with traditional glass painting under the title "Glass-AI," thus developing new, unprecedented forms of expression in glass painting. Mia Walder, a Swiss photographer and visual artist as well as an AI artist, explores the possibilities of visual representation. She connects these with photographic and conceptual approaches using artificial intelligence. Her works are characterized by experimental compositions and a multifaceted visual language in which digital and photographic processes merge. In doing so, she examines questions of perception, transformation, and the relationship between technology and image. With her series, she is present in the contemporary Swiss art and photography scene, including presentations at photoSCHWEIZ in the Kongresshaus Zurich.
