Description
In the summer of 1874, Johannes Brahms spends several months in Rüschlikon high above Lake Zurich. He composes, drinks, argues, and flirts; friends and spa guests come and go. Many decades later, author Kaspar Wolfensberger discovers objects in a dresser believed to be lost, which seem to tell the story of this extraordinary summer of Brahms and his friends. This led to his book The Brahms Dresser. On this evening, Wolfensberger reads selected passages from the book. Claire Pasquier and Jansen Ryser pick up the literary traces musically and let works by Johannes Brahms be played on the piano. Words and music engage in dialogue, painting an entertaining and personal picture of the great composer. An evening of historical exploration, poetic imagination, and the unmistakable music of Johannes Brahms. Program: Texts from the book The Brahms Dresser, piano pieces by Johannes Brahms and Elisabeth von Herzogenberg
