Axelle Stiefel - Textile Metaphorology

Description

The Geneva-based artist Axelle Stiefel creates connections between various organizations and operates both within and outside cultural infrastructures. Her research focuses on transience from the perspective of textile metaphorics, which forms the conceptual framework for linking different media. She expands her practice to concept development, design, and consulting. Using the medium of textiles as a guide, Axelle Stiefel will develop a form for the car that will function as an experimental setup and also incorporate aspects of St. Gallen's textile history. Axelle Stiefel's works have been presented in leading institutions across Europe, including Wiels (Brussels), Kunstmuseum Gegenwart (Basel), Kunstraum Niederösterreich (Vienna), and Villa Le Parc (Annemasse). She is a founding member of several collective initiatives, including the editorial project artist network theory, the collective calling the operator, and vorstellen.network, a performative platform for exchange among artists. Recently, she worked as an embedded artist and co-curator with the group Annexe for the Swiss Pavilion at the 2025 Architecture Biennale in Venice. Currently, she contributes her artistic expertise to the PENbank project at CHUV and supports the development of mediation processes that convey a shift in the perception of doctors' work and life. Through various projects in collaboration with Eastern Swiss artists and residencies at Sitterwerk and TaDa in Arbon, Axelle Stiefel has developed a long-standing connection with Eastern Switzerland.
