Description

« Antigone at Night » is born from a desire for simplicity: a voice, a body, a text, a place. No set or artifices, only the power of the verb and the fragility of a being who lends their flesh to all characters, as if the conflicts of the city and family were just the multiple faces of the same internal struggle. Performed in a real space under a tree, this version reveals a more direct, more incisive form while leaving a luminous space for humor, with a mischievous touch. This lightness accompanies the tragic, sharpening it — like a burst of laughter in the middle of an overly heavy silence. The twilight light, this fragile moment between day and night, becomes a playing partner. The shadow elongates the bodies, the clarity declines. And in this suspended passage, the ancient text suddenly joins our contemporary concerns. Françoise Boillat and Guillaume Béguin, new co-directors of the TPR, have been working together for over ten years. Born in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1974 and 1975, they both trained at the Lausanne Conservatory. Founder of the Compagnie du Gaz, Françoise Boillat performs and directs projects rooted in reality, exploring contemporary social and political themes. She has been teaching and coordinating the pre-professional theater training at the TPR since 2011. Director and author, Guillaume Béguin runs the Compagnie de nuit as well. A fan of both individual and collective writing, he is regularly performed at the TPR, the Théâtre de Vidy, the Théâtre du Grütli, the Poche-GVE, and the Maison Saint-Gervais. He teaches at several schools and co-founded in 2020 La FC, a professional association for research and sharing knowledge in the performing arts.
