Description
Philippe Bodenmann, who studied printmaking at the École d’art in La Chaux-de-Fonds, has been building a collection of Swiss and international art since the 1980s, reflecting both his perspective and life path. At the start of his career, he painted himself and exhibited twice within the framework of the museum's biennials for contemporary art. These years of discovery form the basis of his sophisticated culture and pronounced preference for geometric abstraction. In 2025, he decided to donate his entire collection to the museum. This donation demonstrates his trust in the institution and continues a long-standing intellectual and friendly relationship. The collection includes more than 200 works: paintings, sculptures, and prints. It spans from the Neuchâtel School of the early 20th century through the Zurich Concrete Art of the 1950s to international conceptual and minimal art of the 1960s and 1970s, and also includes Swiss artists with whom Philippe Bodenmann developed friendships over time. It is of historical and artistic significance but also preserves the memory of exhibitions that shaped the museum for forty years. It coherently continues the donation of Olivier Mosset, from which it differs in its perspective: on one hand that of the artist, on the other that of the art lover who truly loves, explores, cultivates his taste, and above all lives with his works.
