Description
Ahmad Al Rayyan thematizes experiences of forced migration, exile, and bureaucracy in his works. His paintings are created using screen printing from multiple overlapping geometric patterns reminiscent of Arabic ornamentation. Upon closer inspection, they reveal individual features of documents, such as train tickets – everyday objects that make visible contrasts like freedom and restriction, mobility and immobility. Al Rayyan's works refer to experiences as a stateless person: to the forced displacement from the country of origin due to conflicts and the subsequent admission procedure in the Swiss legal system.
