Description

The association Femmes à Fribourg – Tours de Ville / Frauen in Freiburg - City Tours has been offering bilingual narrated and subsequently dramatized city tours about the history of women in Freiburg for thirty years. To celebrate this 30-year anniversary, two events are organized: A bilingual exhibition at L’Atelier from September 10 to October 1, 2026, which also offers events in French and German, guided tours, and lectures. A publication in collaboration with Pro Fribourg. The Pro-Fribourg booklet covers the research conducted for the latest city tours. It will be presented during the exhibition at L’Atelier. At L’Atelier, the association presents its history as well as women's engagement in five thematic areas: education, work, health, social action, and women's rights. Each of these areas is addressed through three focal points, each centered on a woman; her historical context is illustrated with photographs, archive documents, and furniture. Thanks to a mascot and an easily accessible tour, the exhibition is designed to appeal to both children and adults. The publication of a bilingual Pro-Fribourg booklet revisits the research conducted for the latest city tours. The association has chosen the theme Women in Public Space, in connection with the relevance of new feminist movements, which increasingly motivate women to demonstrate for their rights on the streets, occupy media and social networks, and assert themselves in the workplace. Freiburg was not spared from these movements, but their history in our region remains largely unexplored. Program: September 10 to October 1: Exhibition - Women in Freiburg celebrates its 30th anniversary at L’Atelier - Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, Saturday and holidays from 11 am to 6 pm, closed on Sundays. Wednesday, September 9, 6 pm - Opening of the exhibition and publication Tuesday, September 15, 2026, 7 pm – Lecture - Aurore Müller, Centre en études genre, University of Lausanne "Les Fribourgeoises face au divorce (1960-2000)" Tuesday, September 22, 2026, 7:30 pm - Lecture (in German) - Dominique Lysser, Department of Contemporary History, University of Freiburg "Women’s Lives Through the Ages: From the First Swiss Exhibition for Women’s Work 1928 to SAFFA 1958" Tuesday, September 29, 2026, 6:30 pm - Awarding of the Claire-Nordmann Prize by the Mille Sept Sans association Following each event, a reception will be offered.
