1st Set: Linda Scharnagl Large Ensemble «Wood is Wood is Wood»

Genre-spanning suite blending improvisational openness, chamber music precision, jazz, and classical. «Wood is Wood is Wood» was created when multi-instrumentalist and composer Linda Scharnagl observed that the baritone saxophone can sometimes sound almost identical to the cello. She juxtaposed a string instrument with a wind instrument and literally captured the theme of reflections musically and sonically: violin and alto saxophone, viola and tenor saxophone, cello and baritone saxophone engage in a multifaceted dialogue. The ensemble is complemented by vibraphone, double bass, and drums. A complex work that explores sonic boundaries and makes musical reflections perceptible on various levels.
