WMC Concert: Jubilate Deo by Dan Forrest

The Symphonic Rock Orchestra Wood and Metal Connection (WMC) Einsiedeln ventures once again into a monumental and impressive contemporary work, which will be performed four times in various churches in the canton of Schwyz in October 2026 – including twice in the Einsiedeln Monastery Church. For this project, the large symphony orchestra is complemented by a specially created project choir of around 80 singers from the region as well as two vocal soloists. The work Jubilate Deo by the American composer Dan Forrest (*1978) expresses the joy and praise of God in a worldwide musical language. The work is based on the Latin Psalm 100 (“Jubilate Deo omnis terra”) and reflects the global diversity of praise. Forrest integrates musical elements from different cultures to emphasize the universality of worship. Especially in this current time of great global upheavals, war in Europe, and general uncertainty, we want to emphasize community and unity despite diversity with this work.

The concert opens with Origins by the American composer Brian Balmages (*1975), an atmospheric overture about origin, community, and the elemental forces of humanity. Earthy tones, archaic motifs, and powerful crescendos create the thematic starting point for the following main work. This combines seven languages and diverse musical influences from different cultures into an impressive musical experience. Together, the two works create a thematic arc from the origins of humanity to universal praise and set a sign for diversity, community, and hope.
