Description
Some concert evenings do not arise from a tour schedule, but from an idea. Those who have followed Follia in recent years have observed how their musical radius has steadily expanded. Since their first collaboration with Tschou Endo in 2024, we have been following their journey with great interest. They have been guests at MAUZ several times, released new music, discovered new stages, and continuously built a growing audience. Recently, they appeared as a guest in the opening act for Dino Brandão, Sophie Hunger, and Faber, and presented their new EP Verrutscht at the sold-out Helsinki Klub in Zurich. With Verrutscht, Follia shows an artist in motion. The new songs revolve around shifts, breaks, and the question of what remains when certainties slip away. Between double bass, loop station, voice, and fine electronic colors, a distinctive sound cosmos emerges somewhere between songwriting, pop, and art song. At MAUZ, Follia will not perform solo this time, but as a duo with Annie Mumford. Their subtle yet surprising percussion accompaniment opens new spaces for the songs and makes the concert much more than a classic singer-songwriter performance. In the second part of the evening, follows the Mich Gerber All Stars Jam Band.
Mich Gerber has been one of the most independent voices in Swiss music for decades. With his unmistakable playing, loops, and soundscapes, he has given the double bass a completely new role and gained attention far beyond the country's borders. For the All Stars Jam Band, he has gathered three extraordinary musicians: Al Comet, long-time keyboardist of the legendary Young Gods and now touring with his sitar project Sitarday, Wolfgang Zwiauer, one of the most versatile bassists in Switzerland spanning jazz, improvisation, pop, and world music, and Andi Pupato, whose percussion can be heard in projects such as Nik Bärtsch's Ronin, Andreas Vollenweider, Stiller Has, and numerous international projects. Together, the four musicians create an open sound space between groove, improvisation, Indian raga tradition, ambient, jazz, and experimental music. Sometimes trance-like and meditative, sometimes rhythmic and full of energy, the music is less interested in stylistic boundaries than in the moment. A closer look reveals many invisible connections across the Swiss music landscape: from Stiller Has to the Young Gods and to current projects and new voices. The Mich Gerber All Stars Jam Band makes these connections audible – not as a retrospective, but as lively, contemporary music. A rare encounter of four musicians who have developed their own language over decades and from which new things continually emerge. Line-up: Mich Gerber, double bass
