In the world of whisky, there are basically two types of bottlings: those from the distilleries themselves and those from so-called independent bottlers. With distillery bottlings, companies usually ensure that the whisky tastes the same across different batches and years. This way, customers can rely on a bottle from 2019 tasting the same as one from yesterday. Independent bottlers follow a different strategy. These are companies that do not produce spirits themselves but specialize in buying barrels from established distilleries that have developed particularly interesting characteristics and bottling them. This results in very special bottlings that reflect the character of the respective distillery but taste-wise are still off the norm. They are often unfiltered and bottled at cask strength, i.e., without dilution. These bottlings are aimed at connoisseurs looking for something special beyond the standard products. And exactly six of these bottlings will be tasted in this degustation. Adriano Volpe from Seven Seals will guide us through an exciting selection of whiskies from various independent bottlers. We will taste well-known brands that impress with an individual flavor profile in these bottlings.
