“Did anyone ever tell you back then that you are mature for your age?” Three friends reflect on their teenage years. When they ate fries at the swimming pool at thirteen and older men whistled at them, as they transformed from children to bodies, and it seemed like a compliment when someone told them they were mature for their age. They consider how they would have liked to react and reenact the situations together to give the experiences a different, better turn. One where they do not swallow their anger, where they do not have to accept everything silently, but oppose violence. But how can they denounce the lack of protection in the present to create a better future for all current and former 13-year-olds? The three face this task – and make a start. Lena Riemer spoke with more than 50 teenagers aged between eleven and sixteen about their experiences with sexism and catcalling for this piece. All of them could speak from personal experience, and thus a text was created that questions why teenagers are not protected in public, private, and digital spaces.
