Salon zur Katz #2: „SEE“

On this evening, the second edition of the “Salon zur Katz” titled “SEE” will be opened and will be on display until October 4th on the four floors of the tower. “SEE” – deliberately ambiguous as “see/lake” – is both a guiding motif and an invitation: to see, to understand the lake as a place and resonance space for contemporary art and design. The Salon zur Katz is an exhibition format of the Turm zur Katz, which provides dense, curated insights into the city’s independent scene. It is understood as an open showcase for creativity from Konstanz, a place of dialogue between artists and the public, and an experimental field where different disciplines confidently stand side by side: photography meets illustration, painting meets sound, documentary approaches meet poetic condensations. The format focuses on closeness and exchange – low-threshold, audience-friendly, and with programmatic events such as the soft opening on Gassenfreitag, which connects art, city, and late summer in the old town. The exhibition has a sounding level, as saxophonist and composer Jonathan Chazan has specially developed a soundtrack for the salon that runs through the rooms like a fine red thread and complements seeing with hearing. Illustrations become a participatory space when illustrator Maria Golz invites visitors on the first floor to take up pen, scissors, and glue themselves and become part of a developing community artwork. In strong colors, between street art references and narrative motifs, painter Sebastian Kuban reflects on family memories in his latest series of images – with a mix of seriousness and humor that sharpens the view. Precisely composed photographs are presented by Pfeffer (Torben Nuding): color tones, composition, and attention to detail unfold an aesthetic tension in which beauty and socio-political attitude meet. A sensitive study on body images, diversity, and self-determination is shown by photographer Milena Schilling with “ORIGIO” – over three years she portrayed 45 people from Konstanz naked in Lake Constance, focusing on trust, respect, and the self-perception of the portrayed. Also shown for the first time in Konstanz are parts of the new cycle “Passagen” by Florian Schwarz, whose photographic works were created along European peripheries and external borders; technically newly realized images correspond with his journalistic practice and point to the power of the photo book medium.
