Fabian Dopfer came to photography via indirect routes, and looking at the finished photos, one might add: fortunately. Because with Dopfer, color and form clash. Full of force, energy, and yet in a very special, narrative way, almost painterly to sculptural. They are compositions that challenge our visual habits and do what art should always do: engage and challenge visitors. Dopfer himself would place himself in the technical corner; early on, he was interested in everything that could be unscrewed, discovered, and reassembled. Curious, no, he still is, and at the same time a nature lover. The mountains and nature were already an outlet and inspiration for Dopfer, born in Dachau, as a child. But with the camera, he discovered new perspectives that were more interesting than what he perceived with the naked eye. "The value of being able to take a really good photo of the moment outside became greater for me than the real experience in nature," he says. He was guided by feeling when the right moment for the best shot was, and knew intuitively whether he was at the right place at the right time. This experience ultimately convinced him to attend the Photo Academy in Cologne from 2019 to 2022. "That was a right and brave step," says Dopfer, who now only goes into nature without a camera and has added the fascination of technology to the fascination of art.
