Piano Trio in C minor, op. 66 The special feature of KV 442 is its fragmentary character, as it originally consists of three independent, unfinished trio movements. They were only completed posthumously at the request of Constanze Weber for a concert piece. The finale, which comes from his last year of life, is considered outstanding and combines Bach-like counterpoint with folk-like melody. The folk-like theme continues with Dvorák. Dumky are Slavic ballads that abruptly switch between melancholic minor moods and fast major dances, which is particularly enjoyable for the cellist. Mendelssohn's Opus 66 has always been overshadowed by his first trio – unjustly so. Because in terms of composition, it is significantly more demanding and "a bit nasty" to play, as the composer himself describes with much understatement regarding the piano passages.
The Trio Adorno is considered one of the most exciting ensembles of its generation. Founded in 2003, trio playing has been the artistic passion of the three instrumentalists since their youth. Since then, the trio has dedicated itself to an aesthetic that combines the homogeneous sound of the two string instruments with that of the piano, without neglecting the contrasts and the rich tonal variety of the individual instruments. Since its founding, the trio has been awarded prizes at nearly all renowned chamber music competitions. Particularly formative in their training were studies with the Beaux Arts Trio, the Artemis Quartet, and their long-time mentors from the Alban Berg Quartet.
