Denis Wittberg and his Shellac Soloists are well known from television. At the end of September, the popular singer will perform for the first time as part of one of the matinées organized by the Cultural Office in the Trauraum of the Town Hall, together with pianist Jörg Walter Gerlach and the program "In der Bar zum Krokodil." Wittberg, who describes himself as a "singer of light music," is a high-level entertainer. Casually and confidently, he presents his solo singing program and takes the audience into the world of elegant salons and glamorous dance palaces, into the era of slicked-back hair, feather boas, and pressed tuxedos. With an ironic undertone and stylish nuances, as well as a slightly cool charm, he offers a compilation of couplets and film hits from the Golden Twenties and the following two decades. Titles like "Come to me for tea" or "In a small gentlemen's goods store" humorously revolve around the themes of love and passion. The work "In der Bar zum Krokodil," which is both tear-jerking and the title piece, is also part of his program. These miniature operas often reflect the comedy and tragedy of human depths in their three to four-minute duration. Every word, every musical phrase is carefully chosen, even if it concerns trivial content. These works are complemented by some songs from the Neue Deutsche Welle. The audience can convince themselves on September 27 that this combination works excellently within a concert.
