Not only because of its high level, but also because of its ensemble, the Quatuor Zaïde is a very special string quartet. It is quite rare for four young women to succeed in the highly competitive international classical music market. Charlotte Maclet (violin), Leslie Boulin Raulet (violin), Céline Tison (viola), and Juliette Salmona (cello) have achieved this and have been enchanting audiences since the ensemble's founding in 2010 with their diverse repertoire, ranging from classical quartets to contemporary works. In the tri-national city, the four French women will perform Schubert's "Erlkönig" in an arrangement for string quartet by Éric Mouret, Beethoven's String Quartet in B-flat major, a folk tune from the "Beethoven Folk" project, and Schubert's classic string quartet "Death and the Maiden." With "Beethoven Folk," the four musicians aim to supplement the composer's quartets with excerpts of traditional rhythms and melodies. The concert in the church in Altweil will feature a B-flat major string quartet inspired by a folk song. The quartet's openness to new and extraordinary things is also evident in their collaborations over the past years. Quatuor Zaïde has already worked with jazz musicians such as Michel Portal, Marion Rampal, Sylvain Rifflet, and Yaron Herman. They performed in the piece "Impermanence" with the Sydney Dance Company, and Mozart's "The Magic Flute" was staged with the pantomime group around Wolfgang von Bodecker and Alexander Neander from the Marcel Marceau School. Building a career in classical music is hardly possible without winning prestigious competitions. Quatuor Zaïde has achieved great success in this area as well, winning prizes worldwide between 2010 and 2012, for example in Banff, Canada, Bordeaux, the Netherlands, Beijing, and at the ARD Music Competition in Munich. They were awarded the First Prize and three special prizes at the Haydn Competition in Vienna. Their breakthrough on the major international stages of Europe came with their inclusion in the Rising Stars Tour in the 2015/16 season, with concerts in many European countries. They have also performed at the Berlin Philharmonic, Cologne Philharmonic, Essen Philharmonic, Baden-Baden Festival Hall, Dortmund Concert Hall, Düsseldorf Tonhalle, and Hamburg Laeiszhalle. The ensemble has toured North and South America (USA, Canada, Colombia, and Brazil) and Asia (China, Hong Kong, and Korea). The four string players have numerous CD recordings to their name. Their current album featuring Schubert's "Death and the Maiden" and two art song arrangements was released at the end of 2025. Over the next two years, a complete recording of all Beethoven's string quartets is planned. Instruments: Charlotte Maclet plays a Milanese violin from 1769 by Carlo Ferdinando Landolfi, provided by the "El Pasito" association. Leslie Boulin Raulet's violin was built in 1715 by Jacques Bocquay. Céline Tison owns a viola over 300 years old by Sebastien Rauch. Juliette Salmona performs with a cello by Claude-Augustin Miremont from 1876. The concert is organized by the cultural office of the tri-national city. One of the office's goals is to inspire young people for classical music. For this reason, admission is free for students and apprentices upon presentation of their ID at the door.
