Description
With Tord Gustavsen and Trygve Seim, two of the most prominent representatives of the Norwegian 'nordic sound' are coming to Heidelberg for the first time as a duo. In the special space of the Heiliggeistkirche, in October, two musicians whose art is characterized by concentration, sound culture, and spirituality will meet. Gustavsen is one of the jazz pianists with an unmistakably unique style, driven by an outstanding touch culture. His music, which he once called 'little hymns,' combines intimacy and depth. Trygve Seim developed a distinctive, elegiac tone on the saxophone, between jazz and classical music – inspired once by Jan Garbarek's 'Eventyr.' How intense this interplay is, described SZ critic Andrian Kreye after a joint concert: Gustavsen can 'model the tones so finely,' as if he were playing the strings with 'horsehair bows,' while Seim develops an 'enormous presence' from simple motifs. In the 'piano-pianissimo,' the two literally took the breath away from the audience. Their music creates a pull between silence, improvisation, and spirituality. Gustavsen and Seim – an extraordinary duo for an extraordinary space.
