Description
The Landsgemeindeplatz in Trogen surprises many visitors and passersby. How did such impressive stone buildings end up on this square in a rural village perched on this exposed rocky outcrop? And with an architectural style one is more accustomed to seeing in large cities or in Italy. The church’s façade alone immediately brings Lucca to mind. Between 1747 and 1809, successful merchants from the Zellweger family built these structures to serve as their homes and business premises. Inside, they are richly decorated, featuring surprisingly beautiful halls, ornate staircases, and impressive works of art. Just as fascinating as the architectural heritage is the history of the merchant family, including everything a wealthy and successful family experienced during those years. Tour: Landsgemeindeplatz – Rectory – Town Hall – Church – Fünfeckpalast – Krone Inn Meeting Point: We’ll meet before the tour for coffee together at Café Ernst on Landsgemeindeplatz in Trogen. The tour begins at 11:00 a. m. We’ll wrap up the tour by enjoying a meal at the bistro of the historic Krone Inn. I’d love to take you on a journey into this world of centuries past.
