Temporary exhibition "SHOWING FACE"

Description

Until 1981, tens of thousands of people were forcibly interned or "forcibly placed" in Switzerland. In homes or foster families, they experienced abuse, violence and exclusion. It was only after those affected found the courage to speak out and make their fates known to the public that political pressure increased to turn the spotlight on this dark chapter in Swiss social history.

The workshop exhibition complements the traveling exhibition "I was simply nobody" - Welfare and coercion in Switzerland, which will be on display from August 7 to 24, 2026 in the
Volksgarten in Glarus from 7 to 24 August 2026.

Those affected, relatives and interested parties are invited to explore taboo topics that are closely or loosely related to coercive measures under expert guidance as part of a history workshop.

A series of events will be held on the occasion of the temporary exhibition (see flyer).

Guided tours for groups are possible all year round by appointment.
