Founded in 1988 in Long Island, New York, SUFFOCATION is one of the most iconic and influential bands in the history of death metal. Considered one of the pioneers of brutal death metal, the band distinguished itself from the beginning with a style that blends technicality, sonic violence, and complex rhythms. With cult albums like Effigy of the Forgotten, Breeding the Spawn, and Pierced from Within, Suffocation has helped define the standards of the genre and inspired countless bands around the world. Despite a temporary breakup in the late 1990s, the band returned in the early 2000s and continues to evolve without losing its identity. Now composed of Terrance Hobbs, Derek Boyer, Charles Errigo, Eric Morotti, and Ricky Myers, the band continues to champion brutal, technical, and uncompromising death metal. More than thirty-five years after its creation, Suffocation remains an essential reference and a major source of inspiration for the global extreme metal scene.
