Sitting around a campfire and gazing into the sparkling starry sky above – for 25 years, the fascination of Africa's south has been an intense experience of the mighty nature for Katja and Josef Niedermeier. According to a legend, everything life has descended from a rope of stars at the sacred Tsodilo Hills in Botswana. Far from esoteric, science confirms: when stars burn out, the fundamental building blocks of life are formed. For our earliest ancestors, the Bushmen, those who could not hear the stars were considered incurable and seriously ill. Over the course of human history, the stars have "fallen silent," and we can no longer hear them – not even the last direct descendants of the first Bushmen, who lead a different life in modern times.
NAMIBIA AND BOTSWANA – ECHO OF CREATION takes you on an entertaining journey to the roots of our earliest ancestors. In their new live report, Katja and Josef Niedermeier view their old love, Africa's south, from new perspectives. They follow ancient paths to the place where, according to the latest research, modern humans were born. The cradle of our ancestors, southern Africa, shows us in many ways the changes over millions of years, millennia, and decades.
The emotional journey takes viewers through the contrasting nature and untamed wilderness of southern Africa. From the silence of the desert in the lonely Hartmann Valley, the world-famous dunes of Sossusvlei, or the surreal scenery of Deadvlei, Katja and Josef Niedermeier also report on the impressive wildlife at the waterholes of Nxai Pan, the legendary Savuti, or in the greenery of the Okavango Delta.
An adventurous desert expedition leads into the realm of legendary desert elephants and into the heart of the gigantic dry river valleys – 1200 km back to the Middle Ages, when people settled along the notorious Skeleton Coast. Katja and Josef Niedermeier are deeply impressed by the San people and their ancestral knowledge, which preserves the fragile, planet-spanning network of life.
