TOBS! Theater Orchestra Biel Solothurn Romulus the Great, the last emperor of the Roman Empire, is sitting at his summer residence and cares not at all about state affairs. He is only interested in his poultry breeding. His ministers become nervous. They beg the emperor to finally do something against the advancing Germans. But Romulus does not even dream of it. He is also not willing to save his empire by selling it to the industrialist Cäsar Rupf. On the contrary: Romulus has deliberately positioned himself at the head of the Roman Empire to let it fall into ruin. "It has become a world empire and thus an institution that publicly commits murder, looting, oppression, and plundering at the expense of other peoples." Romulus’s entourage flees. Left alone, he surrenders to the Germans when they reach his villa. But Romulus has not reckoned with the German prince Odoaker. Because he is also war-weary and has only come to surrender himself to Romulus... In "Romulus the Great," Friedrich Dürrenmatt stages power-weary rulers and plays his bitter game with the supposedly strong of this world.
